What to do in Redlands.

I moved here a little over a year ago from Albuquerque.I really love Redlands. It is lacking a few things but all in all there are things to do here. If you bar hop there is the "downtown".I really like the Vault and the Underground. But for beer on tap there is the Falconer and then theres Charlie Jewels.I am a little older than most in the crowd but they seem gracious, and well I can still rock with the best of them.
I would though like to see a different bunch of restaraunts come in,and thats where I will be adding to it in the coming years.Hopefully. But anyway if anyone wants to stop and have a beer or a glass of wine ,Hey i'm here for you.So hey lets talk Redlands.

Vote For Me!!!

Hey Everyone, I entered a singer-songwriter contest at a local radio station. I guess anyone is allowed to vote on the winner so.....PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!! If I win, I get $25,000 and a record contract! Pretty sweet, eh??

Here's how to do it:

go to www.star987.com

Click on "Rockstar Contest"

From here you can either watch my video (it's on page 5) or you could just scroll down, find my name and VOTE FOR ME!
(don't be fooled, the list appears to be in alphabetical order but it isn't---my name is about midway down in one of the "M" sections...it will say "Charlotte McCleary.

Thanks so much!!! I love you guys!!!

Just wanted to say hello to everyone in the 909. I just moved out here in June from Dallas and am currently living in Yucaipa. I love it here, being at the foot of Big Bear, however meeting people and making friends out here is really difficult in a town where everyone is either retired or in High School. =P

I'm very interested in meeting/hanging with people in the area, as LA is a bit far to drive to have all my friends in SoCal living there. =)

Hey People:

Please pardon the cross postings I did today related to Bush in the Inland Empire but I wanted to be sure that everyone in our area was aware of his impending appearance.

Expect a rough weekend if you're at all outside the range of normal as the establishment is going to be aggressively cleaning up the area. Poor people and people with pigment please be especially careful as targeting and profiling is going to most likely land in your laps.

I pray that his visit is uneventful.

The people are turning against the U.S. war on Iraq, and President Bush is on the defensive. He is currently touring the country to defend his criminal policies of war, racism, greed and occupation.

On this tour, Bush is waging a campaign of lies. His biggest lie, a lie he has been repeating over and over again, is that this war is in the interests of working people here in the U.S. The truth is that working people in the U.S. and U.S. troops have much more in common with the Iraqi people than they ever will with the Bush administration, the Pentagon and Wall Street.

Now is the time for the anti-war movement to take the offensive. On Monday, August 29, let's greet Bush and tell him he's not welcome in Southern California. Bring your signs, voice of protests, drums and noisemakers!

Stop the War on Iraq!
Stop Bush!
Bring the Troops Home Now!
End Colonial Occupation from Iraq to Palestine to Haiti and Everywhere!

Preserving Citrus-Growing in California

The Inland Orange Conservancy is trying to preserve groves in and around Redlands. And, donors to the Conservancy get a share of the crop every week. Redlands, Riverside, and the rest of the Inland Empire are fast being swallowed by urban sprawl and, in ten years, may look just like Orange County does today. To help or learn more, access http://www.inlandorange.com .

I also started another tribe devoted to the subject as well as to the artwork used in local citrus crate labels at http://CaliforniaCitrus.tribe.net .

The Movie, "Slackers"

I happened to catch the movie, "Slackers", again on Comedy Central, Saturday, and was counting all the places I knew that were used as locations for the production.

... Fairmount Park... the Memorial Chapel at University of Redlands... U.C., Riverside....

"Aw, dude. Did you see that? That was the nosebleed lecture hall where I took a physics class."

I really need to get a life. ;)

Does anyone else know of movies that were shot here? I know that much of Oliver Stone's "Nixon" and Wynona Ryder's "How to Make an American Quilt" were filmed in Redlands and Riverside. And, I also know that "The Rocketeer" makes mention of Redlands because it's the hometown of the movie's screenwriters. "The Rocketeer", especially, has a Redlands sensibility, even though I don't think any of it was filmed here.

I just moved out here from all over. Sorta from Portland. Sorta from San Fiasco.

It's very sleepy. Anything ever happen out here besides the occasional seasonal sales at the strip malls & some dude wearing a cow costume outside of chik-fil-a in the 100+ degree heat?

Any place to go see music? Or a good place to grab a pint of bitters? Or outdoor activities? Or people just hanging out being socialable people doing whatever?

Police Can Damage Your Stuff - No Liability

Mighty Pissed Off:

On January 4, 2004 the city of Riverside Police Department pulled me over for not wearing a seatbelt. The officer insisted that I was using methamphetamine and asked if she could conduct a search of my car. Intensely offended I granted her permission to search my car as I had nothing to hide.

Having given her permission she had me exit my car and she placed handcuffs on me and put me in the back of her sqad car after searching me (and finding nothing). She spent at least an hour with two other officers going through my car, inch by inch. Opening my belongings, unfolding papers, emptying containers, smelling bottles that had automotive stuff and/or beverages in them, and more.

I had just completed laundry and was on my way to the grocery store to finish up my errands when she had pulled me over and one of the officers was kind enough to unfold ALL of my laundry. They nearly destroyed a zipper on a sleeping bag I had in the car as well. Since I was in the back of the squad car there wasn't anything I could do to exercize my right to recind my permission and end the search so I endured as they continued their investigation.

When I was finally allowed out of her car she gave me the ticket for no seatbelt and took off while I was refolding my laundry. I wasn't about to give them the satisfaction of leaving with my life a mess. When I got back into my car I realized that they had ripped a massive hole in the headliner of my car. The vinyl that covers the ceiling of my car had a hole bigger than my head and was so damaged that it had a flap that hung down in a way that obscured the windshield.

I filed a report as soon as I got home and they had another officer come out and take pictures. They assured me that this isn't how things are done and that they'd repair it as soon as they reviewed my claim.

Apparently the cops aren't responsible for damaging people's property when done according to "procedure." The city adjuster was kind enough to send me a letter letting me know that, "[they] have found that there is no liability on the part of the City." They also said they spoke with the police department and that they, "[...] agree that the police followed procedure in [my] incident."

My question to you people, everyone who is actually reading this, what the hell do I do now? I am not financially capable of hiring a real lawyer nor am I willing to just allow this to pass. Would it be worthwhile to picket? Is that even legal? Should I distribute fliers outlining that I'm a disabled citizen and they have taken advantage of their powers of authority and are not taking responsibility for causing me financial harm? Should I make it clear that there was a black person in the car with me and that they treated him less respectfully than I was? Would it matter if I were to file a small claim against them?

How long before they break into our bodies in order to find "contraband?" Oh wait, they already do.

Weren't you told not to play with Fire?

Hey people:

I didn't listen to a few other things I was told along the way either.

Now that we have a few members in here I'm going to ask if anyone else is interested in playing with fire. Think poi, staff, fingers, swallowing, etc. I have a pretty good connection with several fire people in LA and would be burning with them but the drive is just too painful so I'm going to try to start something out here. I'm most familiar with and most interested in poi. The rest I'll either have to beg someone to come out to teach those interested in it or we'll go there. My hope is that someone that has some coreography skills will be interested in this activity and we can start our own fire troup out here.

Things we need to address that I'll get to when I can unless someone else beats me to it.

Performance insurance. This will help us get permission from the local authorities to actually play with fire both in a performance and practice contexts. This may actually require a nominal fee for membership but the assurance that you're not going to be put in jail for arson if you accidentally starting a fire and the peace of mind that you'll have knowing that even if you do accidentally start a fire you're not going to be skewered financially.

Permits and we need to establish a working relationship with the fire marshall(s) and other enforcement type agencies in the area.

We need a location to burn at! This is essential and pretty self explanatory. In LA the use of Dockweiler Beach is pretty much the norm but there are sometimes issues with wind and the place is closed earlier than most burners would like.

An inexpensive place for hardware. Things I know some people like to use include kevlar fabric, cotton batting (100% cotton), kerosene, white gas (naptha), lamp oil, ball chain and related hardware, heavy leather, and fire extinguishers. I'm sure there may be more that other people use but this is pretty much the list of stuff that I've seen used with relative safety.

If anyone has or can help with these basics it would be much appreciated. Anyone that is directly in contact with any of the agencies that we'd need to register with is highly encouraged to help.

Anyone of any skill level and any age range is encouraged to participate.

Lates,

Hey Everyone:

Just wanted to point out that there IS an Inland Empire Tribe. I posted a listing but I don't think anyone has read it. The reason for making the IE Tribe is twofold:

One: We have an absentee moderator here. People follow their leaders.
Two: The 909 is going to be broken up into more discreet area codes allowing the phone companies to charge more for the same calls we make now as local.

I've decided to continue my membership with this tribe to follow through with the Police Damage posting but I'll be posting all new material to the Inland Empire Tribe. Remember people, networking and community only work if you participate.

http://inlandempire.tribe.net

Regards,
Absentee Moderator

Hey Everyone:

Just wanted to point out that we now have 23 people in the 909 Tribe. I'd like to think that there are more of us out here but at the same time I've also noticed that the moderator isn't exactly responsive or motivated either.

So...

I'm starting another IE related tribe. I'll post a link to it both here an in the other IE tribe that I'm aware of and we'll get something going a little more active than what we've got here.

In about two weeks or so I'll probably drop this tribe for the other one because I'm thinning out my inactive tribes. It only makes sense to have active tribes in my profile. Sure it's a way to weed out people that aren't on par with your interests but at the same time it's also a way to eliminate yet another means of contacting or making contact with someone else that may actually be on the same page with different interests.

Catchya later.

Trip

Any cool bands there this year, or anything worth noting?

Joe and I kinda walked thru it just to walk str8 to the menagerie where our asses were parked the whole weekend =)

Although I did manage to trip over a few concession stands and port-a-lets =)

Anyone out there? Where are the PEOPLE?

Ya'll know about poetry night at Back to the Grind on University? Mondays between 8pm and 9pm until about 10:30 or so. It hasn't been consistant about when it starts and stops but that's as close as I can tell.
